Springvale House 1
Springvale Country Estate, Sheffield.
The contemporary barn, as we’ve come to know the home as, is grand return to what once was; the classic farm-style plan. The family home is situated on a steep embankment overlooking a well developed greenbelt. This locality greatly informed the design of the home and its effects can be seen clearly in the winding stone-chip driveway and stepped terracing of the outdoor living spaces.
The stepped “H” single-storey floor plan has been sheltered by an aluminium roof sheeting that folds down the outward-facing facades of the home while the inward-facing exterior contrasts this modern materiality with a more farm-familiar white-washed facebrick that welcomes you home. The invitation to stay is carried on throughout the open plan interior of the home via a playful language of changing levels and materiality that is informed by the function and privacy of the space
Collectively, this conversation of contrasting components has resulted in a comfortable family home that is rooted to the earth while remaining contemporary, luxurious and timeless.
